AMBITION LAWRENCE WESTON
BUILDING THE BIGGEST WIND TURBINE IN ENGLAND?
COMPLETED IT MATE
When the council decided to shut the local college in Lawrence Weston estate on the outskirts of Bristol, it was the final straw for a community who’d already seen their library, community centre and other local amenities close.
But rather than roll over, the residents came together, knocked on all 4000 doors in the area and asked 3 simple questions - what do you like, not like, and want to change about the area?
Armed with a list of local desires, they set about bringing them to life, learned how to set up a small company to action their ideas, and built the biggest wind turbine in the UK (owned by the community) to help pay for them. Power is now literally with the people.
